The paper presents the results of atmosphere pollution assessment in Apatity town performed based on numerical
modeling for the maximum project height of the ANOF-2 tailing storage, velocity of the incoming stream varying in the
range of 5–23 m/sec. The paper describes principal modernization moments for a 3D aerodynamic model in the terms of
applying a velocity’s logarithmic profile on the model’s input boundary and choosing damping coefficients for a stable
account across the velocity range of wind flow. The dusting assessments are based on earlier substantiated approaches:
the DEAD scheme, the dependence of Westphal et al. The analysis of calculative values of dust concentration has been
corrected for actual dusting areas. It has been shown that at the wind velocity up to 8 m/sec there is no danger of
exceeding of MPC of dust in Apatity town. At storm winds (20–23 m/sec) the sanitary-hygienic standards can be provided
thanks to reducing existing dusting areas by ten times.
Key words: tailing storage; dusting; computer models; wind velocity; atmosphere pollution.
